Cold Weather Shelter Open - Friday, Dec 21 and Saturday, Dec 22
When the EOC determines it is cold enough to open shelters in our area. We work together with area churches to provide volunteers to work at one of the shelters in our area. The shelter we work at is located at Community Congregational Church, 6533 Circle Blvd., New Port Richey. The shelter opens at 6 PM and closes at 7 AM.
We are continually looking for additional volunteers to help with the cold night shelters. If you would like to volunteer please contact Patti at 727-375-8801 ext 2232.
The following churches / organizations rotate working at the shelter.
Team 1 - Community Congregational Church
Team 2 - Generations Christian Church
Team 3 - Unity Truth Center Church
Team 4 - St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church
Team 5 - St. James Catholic Church
Team 6 - Holiday Rotary
Team 7 - First Methodist of NPR / Hope United Methodist / Asbury United Methodist
Team 8 - Hope and First United Methodist Churches
Shift Hours and Details:
Shift 1: 5:30 PM - 9:00 PM During this shift, volunteers assist with check in of the guests, collect belonings, hand out mats and blankets, and prepare food and beverages.
Shift 2: 9:00 PM -12:30 AM During this shift, the volutneers will continue to assist guests as they check in and get setteled for the evening. The doors close at 11:00 PM. Lights out at 11 PM.
Shift 3: 12:30 AM - 4:00 AM During this shift, volunteers will monitor the room and assist guests as needed during the night.
Shift 4: 4:00 AM - 7:30 AM During this shift, volunteers will prepare for breakfast food and beverages. All mats must be sanitized and the building cleaned before leaving. All guests must leave by 7:00 AM.
