The Vision

On June 23, 1974, First Christian Church of Tarpon Springs met for the very first time in the First Federal Saving and Loan Association in downtown Tarpon Springs; 12 people became “charter members.” The vision of the church was to reach people for Christ in north Pinellas and west Pasco counties as well as support domestic ministries and international missions.

The First Minister

Bob Allen, along with his wife Carolyn, was called to serve as the first senior minister in 1975. On the church’s first anniversary, the congregation received a donation of five acres of land on Keystone Road and was able to build and occupy the first building by January of 1977.

The First Missionary

God blessed the Church. It grew. More land was donated. Classrooms were built and more staff was hired. The church sent out her first homegrown missionaries, Jeff and Patty Greene, to Mexico. Tom Phelps, and his wife Rosalie, were called as the second senior minister (1982-1987).

Growth

Rob Clark, and his wife Cherie, served as senior minister from 1987 – 2001. During these years, the Worship Center and Family Life Center were built and staff were hired in Administration, Children’s Ministry, Christian Education, Facilities, Student Ministry, Worship, and Women’s Ministry. Between the explosive population growth of north Pinellas and west Pasco counties and the Pinellas county plans to widen Keystone, the Elders began to pray and plan for a full-campus relocation in Trinity, Florida just four miles from the Keystone location. The Trinity property purchase began in 2001.

The Move To Trinity

Greg Johnson, and his wife Becky, accepted the call of lead pastor of the congregation (2002 – 2017). Construction began on the Trinity property in 2007 and a new church name was chosen that would intentionally represent the many generations of people who gathered to worship, grow, and serve together. Generations Christian Church moved to Trinity in August of 2009. These years were marked by spiritual and numerical growth. Thousands were baptized and connected into GROW groups. GCC clarified and honed her mission of Connecting People To Christ both locally and globally. Outreach into the community and short-term trips to the nations became a reality.

Connecting People To Christ

Today, Generations Christian Church in Trinity, Florida continues to fulfill her mission of connecting people to Christ in Pasco, Pinellas, Hillsborough, and Hernando Counties as well as through internet broadcasting and strategic local, domestic, and international partnerships.

Our Lead Pastor

Pastor Johnny Scott, and his wife, Jen, were called to GCC in the summer of 2017. Pastor Scott began as lead pastor on October 1.
Johnny and Jen Scott have been married for 22 years. They have three boys, Riley, Aiden, and Finnley.
Both Johnny and Jen grew up in an awesome church and fully believe that Jesus is actively building HIS Bride. They want to be a part of a body that is centered around getting to know Him and eagerly awaiting His return.
The Scott family traveled for 15 years with the worship band, Foundation Red, and worked with state teen conventions, retreats, and summer camps leading worship. Shortly after graduation from Cincinnati Christian University in 1999, they began a 12-year ministry with Christ In Youth (CIY). While at CIY, Johnny led the largest junior high national tour in the country, wrote multiple books, and created teaching curriculum for junior high leaders.
The Scott family most recently served at Lifebridge Church in Windermere, FL. Johnny and Jen look forward to getting connected here at Generations Christian Church and continuing the mission of connecting people to Christ!

The First Church Plant

GCC birthed a sister Church in SpringHill. The SpringHill campus was a part of our multi-site strategy and functioned as a successful GCC location until the spring of 2019. Please take a moment and read the story and heart behind the launch of ‘New Life Christian Church’ here.
We are still a multi-site minded church. We believe that multi sites naturally flow out of health in the leading of the Lord in three major ways. These are the metrics that we use in looking for possible multisite opportunities: People, Leaders and Resources. It is our belief that God will lead in new multisite locations when we have raised up so much leadership fruit that there is an overabundance in leaders ready to serve. We believe God will lead in a new multisite location when God has brought so many new people to worship with us that we are clearly overflowing in ways that undoubtedly move us all to see the need for more space in other areas of North Tampa. We believe God will lead in a new multisite when the store house of the Lord is full from the obedience of God’s people to fund it.

The Church And The Future

GCC has a heart for the local church. Not just ours; but the Church that is one body united in Christ. We have a heartbeat for seeing the multiplication of those who know Jesus as Lord. Our mission comes from the words of Jesus himself in Matthew 28:19-20, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” It is from this assignment that we get our church mission, ‘Connection People To Christ’. Check out the Commons At Trinity Vision here!
