Psalm 27:1
Today we saw the worst fall in the stock market since the aftermath of 9/11 with the giant Lehman Brothers filing for the largest bankrupcy in history. This comes on the tail of Ike’s ongoing trail of destruction. The world seems like a pretty unstable place and overall current economic issues of jobs, housing, and such could cause us to be fearful.

And in the middle of all this … we are building a church!!! You know, we have nothing to fear, God will continue to glorify himself through His Church, our role is clear cut … Connecting People To Christ. This will never change and as we reamian faithful to Him we will continue to see God glorify Himself through us, His Church.

When I look at the world and start getting a little nervous, I like to go back to David, who having faced so many dangers, “got it” … he said “The Lord is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid.” Psalm 27:1

Church, this is a good day and a good time to be alive. May God literally shine his glory all around us!

Renaissance Man

May 22nd, 2008

I was thinking about this the other day … what does a real “renaissance” man look like in today’s world? Another way of putting this is … what do women want in a man?? Oddly, the same thing a woman wants … God wants! I think real manhood has gotten lost so I want to suggest 5 things that make the ultimate “man” … things that build legacy and meaning in life;

  1. Compassion … the world cries out for real men who put relationships before themselves and business.
  2. Consistency … I think women and children are desperately looking for me who put character before conformity, and be consistent.
  3. Cooperation … working together on the marriage, in parenting, in the details of life.
  4. Commitment … men who will put cause before comfort. Begins with Christ, then wife, then kids then others. Cause before comfort.
  5. Courage … men who have the guts to be real men and really lead their families and others for the cause of Christ.

What are your thoughts?

Fishing

May 8th, 2008

My whole adult life I have been fishing for people like Jesus told Peter he would be. But I also want to be a fisherman … for real fish too! Problem is, I don’t really know how. Now this is what happened to me last weekend, let me know what you think! Went down like this: Last Friday, Grand Dude ( that is me) goes to Orlando to grandson and his parents … first cast, big fish nails it … all I do is reel it in and take a picture. So I get all excited, buy a couple lures like the one my son in law has, then Saturday comes along and I go home. Doing my usual Saturday preps for Sunday services … prayer, study, notes to myself and I take a 10 minute break, third cast, another big fish. Now what do you think, am I ready to teach fishing? Great course, buy cheap rod and reel, buy something called “lures”, pray, tie one on the end, pray, cast, pray pray pray, reel in fish! I think I am ready! In His Grip, Greg
